ToonGen Privacy Policy

Introduction

ToonGen is operated by Somasundaram M ("we", "us"). This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and — most importantly for a service built around children's photos — how and when we delete it. It applies to the ToonGen website and the ToonGen iOS and Android apps (together, the "Service").

What We Collect

• Photos you upload. To create a storybook character, book, video, or cartoon art, you upload 1–3 photos (typically of your child). These photos include facial images and are the core personal data the Service processes.
• Personalization details. The child's first name (typeset into the story), an optional dedication message, and — for the gift-giver feature — photos of the gift-giver, provided with their consent.
• Order and delivery details. For printed books: your name, phone number, and shipping address, used to fulfil and deliver your order.
• Device and usage data. A random device identifier (used for free-tier limits and to associate your creations with your device), and product analytics events (via PostHog) that help us understand and improve the Service. We do not collect your precise location.

How Photos and Face Data Are Used

Uploaded photos, including facial images and facial features, are used solely to generate your personalized content: the storybook character, book pages, story videos, or cartoon art you request. To do this, photos are transmitted to Google's Gemini AI services for processing, subject to Google's privacy practices in addition to ours. We do not use your photos to train AI models, we do not sell them, and we do not use them for advertising.

Automatic Photo Deletion

Uploaded photos are deleted from our servers automatically by a scheduled cleanup job, currently within 7 days of upload (and the derived character sketches are deleted with them). The personalized content you paid for — your book pages, PDF, or videos — is retained so we can fulfil your order and let you re-download your purchase. Unpaid, abandoned book previews are deleted on the same schedule. You can request earlier deletion at any time (see "Your Choices").

Children

The Service is for adults — parents and guardians — who create personalized content featuring their children. We do not permit children to create accounts or place orders, and we do not knowingly collect information from children directly. Photos of a child must be uploaded by the child's parent or legal guardian, or with their explicit consent. If you believe a child's photos were uploaded without appropriate consent, contact us at somasundaram.mahesh@gmail.com and we will delete them promptly.

Third-Party Services

• Google Gemini — AI generation of characters, pages, and videos.
• Cloudflare — hosting, storage, and content delivery.
• Razorpay — payment processing for book orders. We never see or store your card, UPI, or banking details.
• Apple App Store / Google Play with RevenueCat — in-app subscription billing and management.
• PostHog — product analytics.
• Delivery partners — for printed books, we share your name, phone number, and shipping address with printing and courier partners solely to produce and deliver your order.

Each of these providers handles data under its own privacy policy in addition to our instructions.

Consent to Share Consumption Data with Apple

For purchases made through the Apple App Store, we may share data about your usage of purchased content with Apple to help resolve refund requests, in compliance with Apple's policies and only as necessary to process such requests.

Your Choices

• Deletion. Email somasundaram.mahesh@gmail.com to request deletion of your photos, creations, or order data ahead of the automatic schedule, and we will respond within a reasonable time.
• Uninstalling. Uninstalling the app stops all data collection by the app; photos already uploaded are still deleted on the automatic schedule above.

Security

We use physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect the information we process, including transport encryption and access controls on stored photos and orders.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
