ToonGen is operated by Somasundaram M ("we", "us"). This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and — most importantly for a service built around children's photos — how and when we delete it. It applies to the ToonGen website and the ToonGen iOS and Android apps (together, the "Service").
Uploaded photos, including facial images and facial features, are used solely to generate your personalized content: the storybook character, book pages, story videos, or cartoon art you request. To do this, photos are transmitted to Google's Gemini AI services for processing, subject to Google's privacy practices in addition to ours. We do not use your photos to train AI models, we do not sell them, and we do not use them for advertising.
Uploaded photos are deleted from our servers automatically by a cleanup job that runs once a day and removes photos older than our retention window — currently 7 days (and the derived character sketches are deleted with them). Because the job runs daily rather than continuously, a photo uploaded just after a run is deleted on the run after its seventh day: up to about 8 days from upload, worst case. The personalized content you paid for — your book pages, PDF, or videos — is retained so we can fulfil your order and let you re-download your purchase. Unpaid, abandoned book previews are deleted on the same schedule. You can request earlier deletion at any time (see "Your Choices").
The Service is for adults — parents and guardians — who create personalized content featuring their children. We do not permit children to create accounts or place orders, and we do not knowingly collect information from children directly. Photos of a child must be uploaded by the child's parent or legal guardian, or with their explicit consent. If you believe a child's photos were uploaded without appropriate consent, contact us at toongen@msomu.com and we will delete them promptly.
Each of these providers handles data under its own privacy policy in addition to our instructions.
For purchases made through the Apple App Store, we may share data about your usage of purchased content with Apple to help resolve refund requests, in compliance with Apple's policies and only as necessary to process such requests.
Account deletion is immediate and permanent. There is no restore, no trash, and no way for us to recover a deleted account.
Deleted outright — the records and the image and PDF files behind them:
Kept, but no longer linked to you — orders you paid for. The order record survives because it is a financial document behind a refund, a GST invoice, and a parcel that may already be with a courier. Its link to your account and device is erased, along with the child's name, dedication, and any wish message, so it can no longer be traced back to you or found by your email.
One exception, stated plainly. If a paid printed order has not yet reached our printer, that order's artwork files are kept a little longer so the book, chart, or card you paid for can still be produced. A daily job then clears them in two steps, because the artwork and the address stop being needed at different moments: the artwork files are deleted once the printer has what it needs, or the order is delivered or cancelled, whichever comes first; the delivery address held on that order is kept until the order is delivered or cancelled and erased at that point, because a parcel cannot be sent to an address we have already deleted. Your saved address book is deleted immediately either way — this is only the copy attached to the order in transit. Digital orders have nothing to print and nowhere to ship, so their files are deleted immediately.
Signing in again with the same email address creates a brand-new, empty account. None of the deleted data is attached to it. Separately, a subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play is not cancelled by deleting your ToonGen account — cancel it in your app store account.
We use physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect the information we process, including transport encryption and access controls on stored photos and orders.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
